The Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay wishes to inform residents that hazardous/explosive materials were recently discovered in the Municipal Landfill.
Town employees immediately notified the appropriate authorities who dealt with the hazard. The Happy Valley-Goose Bay RCMP have investigated the matter and determined that while the materials were stable, hazardous and explosive materials should never be discarded in a landfill. The explosive materials found are known as emulsion blasting boosters, called Dyno by Manufacturer, Trojan-Spartan. These materials have been removed and sent for proper disposal.
RCMP have conducted a thorough search of the area and have determined there is no further danger.
The Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay would like to remind the public that hazardous and explosive materials are not accepted at the Municipal Landfill. Residents who come across any hazardous/explosive materials should notify the RCMP.
