Information for the Public
The Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay would like to advise residents that the community is experiencing a large amount of water consumption and encourages residents to conserve water, where possible.
During the summer months, the Town experiences a larger volume of water consumption. The Town is encouraging residents to conserve water for the following reasons:
1) The Municipality’s water treatment plant is currently at maximum capacity.
2) The Municipality is currently exceeding the 3,000 cubic metre threshold of Spring Gulch water, allotted from 5 Wing Goose Bay. In order to ensure and maintain Spring Gulch’s water supply capacities, any consumption exceeding this threshold must be closely monitored, especially during the summer months.
The Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay’s average daily water demand is 6,000 cubic metres. On a peak day in the summer, the Town’s water consumption reaches 7,450 cubic metres.
The Town asks residents to conserve water in the following ways:
o Limiting sprinkler use for watering lawns to early morning and late evenings only;
o Limited filling of swimming pools; and
o Limited washing of vehicles
The Town appreciates the patience and co-operation of residents in conserving water at this time.
