Information for the public
March 23, 2018
The Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay is advising the public of a lagoon overflow at the Wastewater Treatment Facility. This is a result of excessive snow fall this winter, warm spring temperatures and a water main leak.
Town crews have contained the overflow and prevented it from spilling onto adjacent vacant property. Crews have conducted remediation and continue to monitor the system to prevent further overflow.
The wastewater overflow has caused minimal damage to the lagoon, property was not affected and it did not enter the Churchill River.
As a precaution, the Town works in conjunction with the Department of Environment to mitigate any potential environmental and health concerns in these situations.
In the interest of public safety, the Town is asking members of the public to stay away from the area. It has been clearly marked off with high visibility caution tape to help prevent any snowmobilers or individuals from entering.
