Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay awards Contract
for Construction of Labrador Wellness Centre
(Happy Valley-Goose Bay) – At a Regular Meeting of Council on Tuesday, November 27, 2018, the Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay awarded a contract to Pomerleau Inc. for the Design & Build of the Labrador Wellness Centre. The amount of the contract awarded is $25,313,418.00 plus HST.
Mayor Wally Andersen noted, “What we have seen this evening is the culmination of a very exhaustive process, we seen many proposals but Pomerleau Inc. offered the best package in terms of the community need as well as cost.”
“As Committee Chair of the Department of Community Services & Recreation, I am pleased that residents will finally see a brick & mortar stage to this very important and much needed facility.” Says Councillor Jackie Compton-Hobbs.
Construction of the Labrador Wellness Centre is scheduled to commence in the Spring of 2019, with the Design to commence immediately. Official opening is slated for January 2021.
Funding Background:
Projected Cost: $30.5 Million (HST Included)
Federal Contribution: $7.5 Million
Provincial Contribution: $11.5 Million
Nalcor: $1 Million
HST Rebate: $4.1 Million
Town Portion: $1.5 Million
Total Capital Campaign: $5 Million
