2020 Summer Recreation Program

Information for the Public

Release Date: June 26, 2020

The Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay is advising the public that it is closely monitoring information related to the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19). As the Province has moved to Alert Level 2, the Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay is pleased to inform the community that after careful review and consideration, and in keeping with Public Health Guidelines set out by the Provincial Chief Medical Officer of Health, the Town’s Department of Community Services & Recreation will be offering a modified Summer Recreation Program for Summer 2020.

Our first objective is to ensure that the Town is following all recommended guidelines to reduce the risk of Covid-19.  Therefore, the number of participants that will be attending the program daily will be significantly reduced.  However, we aim to offer an opportunity to as many children as possible.

The Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay Summer Recreation Program will be offered in three separate Camps. All Registrations will be offered via Online only. There will be no In-Person Registrations offered at the EJ Broomfield Arena or the Town Hall due to Physical Distancing Guidelines. See below for online registration info:

Camp #1 will start on Monday, July 6, 2020 (Monday to Friday) for a two week period.  We will be accepting 20 participants for the first two weeks (number will be re-assessed on an operational requirement and based on COVID-19 Alert Level after the first week of camp).

***Online Registration for Camp #1 will start on July 1, 2020, at 9:00 AM at the following link:

Camp #2 will take place from July 26 to July 31, 2020, (Monday to Friday).  We will accept 20 different participants (unless demand allows for children from Camp #1 to return).  Registration will be announced at a later date.

Camp #3 will take place from August 3 to August 14, 2020 (Monday to Friday).  We will accept 20 different participants (unless demand allows for children from previous Camp(s) to return).  Registration for Camp #3 will be announced at a later date.

These unprecedented measures, though unfortunate, are necessary to be proactive against the potential spread of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), and the Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay extends thanks to the public for their understanding at this time. Council and Staff appreciate your understanding during this time of uncertainty. We look forward to offering a Summer Recreation Program to our community’s youth.

In consultation with officials at Labrador Grenfell Health and guidance released by the office of the Provincial Chief Medical Officer of Health, the 12th Council of Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Management, and Staff will continue to monitor updates relating to the pandemic and update residents regularly.

The Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay strongly recommends that residents and businesses continue to utilize a cautious approach and exercise recommended practices to help prevent the potential spread of COVID-19.
