Town Lowers Flags in Honour of Jim Lyall

The Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay is saddened to have learned of the passing of former Nunatsiavut Government President, Jim Lyall.

Jim Lyall was a respected member of his community of Nain, Nunatsiavut, and well known by many throughout Newfoundland and Labrador and beyond.

From 2008 to 2012 he served his people as the Nunatsiavut Government’s first elected President. In 2017 Jim returned to the Nunatsiavut Assembly to represent the constituents of the Inuit community of Nain as an Ordinary Member and served as Minister of Language, Culture and Tourism until his passing.

The 13th Council, Management, and Staff of the Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay offer sincere condolences to his family and friends and to his home community of Nain.

In honour of Jim Lyall’s dedication to the Inuit people of Labrador, flags in front of Town Hall will fly at half-mast until sunset of the day of his service.
