National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
Gathering In Front of Town Hall
9:00 AM, Thursday, September 30, 2021
Information for the Public
Release Date: September 29, 2021

Thursday, September 30, 2021, will not be a day for celebrations, nor a day for pomp and pageantry. The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation will be a day for reflection and recognition.

Join us on the Town Hall front lawn at 9:00 AM, Thursday, September 30, 2021, as we gather as a community and show our support for survivors of the residential school system and the thousands of children who never made it home.

Outgoing Happy Valley-Goose Bay Mayor Wally Andersen will offer a few words, as he himself is a residential school survivor.

Flags in front of the Town Hall will be lowered to half-mast and we encourage everyone to wear an orange shirt.

Happy Valley-Goose Bay has one of the largest indigenous populations in the province. We encourage all residents to learn about residential schools and reflect on the histories and cultures of Indigenous peoples.
