Town Lowers Flags in Honour of William Barbour

The Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay is saddened to learn of the passing of a true Labrador pioneer and visionary. William Barbour of Nain, Labrador served the Labrador Inuit as President of the Labrador Inuit Association and then went on to serve as an Ordinary Member and held several portfolios as Minister in the Nunatsiavut Assembly.

William’s commitment to the Labrador Inuit Land Claims Agreement process is a testament to his legacy. He was committed to advancing the rights of Labrador Inuit.

The 12th Council, Management, and Staff of the Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay joins the Nunatsiavut Government in offering sincere condolences to William Barbour’s family and friends.

In honour of his legacy and contribution to Labrador, flags in front of Town Hall will fly at half-mast until sunset on the day of his funeral service.
