Councillor Michelle Baikie – Chair, Finance Administration & Policy Committee
Michelle Baikie was elected on September 26th, 2017 as Councillor to the 12th Council of Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay, NL.
Michelle is the Chair of the Finance, Administration and Policy Committee. Michelle also sits as a member of the Municipal Services Committee.
Michelle has a Bachelor of Science (1994), Rochester Institute of Technology; a Bachelor of Education (2003), Memorial University; a Master of Education (2007), Mount Saint Vincent University; and a Master of Philosophy (2010), University of Cambridge. She is currently a cultural consultant/counsellor with the Post-Secondary Student Support Program, Nunatsiavut Government. Her career has included positions as school administrator, teacher and education consultant, and she has been a telemedicine coordinator for the Labrador-Grenfell Health Authority and an ophthalmic photographer at the Toronto Hospital Western Division. Michelle is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (England and Canadian chapters).
Michelle was appointed by the Lieutenant-Governor in Council for a three-year term beginning March 2017 with Memorial University Board of Regents and is a member of the Governance Committee. Michelle was appointed for a three year term beginning July 2017 with the Labrador-Grenfell Health Authority and also with The Rooms Corporation for a three year term beginning May 2018.
Michelle has served as a volunteer on numerous boards and committees, including The Rooms from Oct 03 – Oct 08, the Grenfell Foundation, Them Days from Sept 2005 – Sept 2007 and again from May 2017 to May 2018, the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network and the Canadian Hard of Hearing Association (Happy Valley-Goose Bay chapter) and as a committee member for the Happy Valley-Goose Bay Community Food Hub.
Michelle would be happy to meet with anyone who have Town related concerns or suggestions to make our Town a greener, environmentally friendly place to live, she will do her best to address them.
