Councillor Lori Dyson – Chair, Economic Development & Public Engagement Committee
Born and raised in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Councillor Lori Dyson-Edmunds was elected to the 12th Council of the Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay in October 2017.
As Chair of the Economic Development & Public Engagement Committee and as a member of the Finance & Admin Committee, Councillor Dyson-Edmunds brings to the table her passion for the community in which she was raised.
Councillor Dyson Edmunds has been an active member of the community her whole life. She founded the original HVGB Special Olympics organization in 1987 and ran it for 10 years. A strong advocate for victims rights, she joined the board of “Labradorians for Peaceful Communities” in 1999 which later became “Violence Prevention Labrador”, a board she is still dedicated to after 20 years.
For 16 years Councillor Dyson-Edmunds successfully operated a hotel in the community of Makkovik, where she also served a term as Councillor for the Makkovik Inuit Community Government and a member of the Canadian Rangers 5 CRPG Makkovik Patrol. Councillor Dyson-Edmunds currently works at the Aboriginal Family Centre in Happy Valley-Goose Bay and volunteers regularly with various organizations and initiatives.
