Council Declares June

Filipino Heritage Month

At a ceremony held at Town Hall, His Worship, Mayor Wilson (Wally) Andersen along with members of the 12th Council of the Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay signed a Proclamation recognizing June as Filipino Heritage Month and also recognizing June 12th as Filipino Independence Day.

The ceremony at Town was well attended by many members of the Filipino Community who call Happy Valley-Goose Bay their home.

‘We thank every one of you for making our community your home,” said Mayor Andersen.

Erwin Ponce said he has lived in Happy Valley-Goose Bay for over two years adding; “The best part of living in Happy Valley-Goose Bay is its people, everyone here is so friendly and welcoming.”

All those in attendance were treated to the singing of the Philippine National Anthem “Lupang Hinirang.” Also in attendance were members of the Canadian Forces stationed at 5 Wing Goose Bay who also happened to have strong family ties to the Phillippines assisted with raising the Flag of the Philippine’s. This is the first time that the Flag of the Filipino people has flown at Town Hall
