Happy Valley Day 76th Anniversary

The Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay advises that on Thursday, September 26th, 2019 at a Noon hour ceremony, His Worship, Mayor Wilson (Wally) Andersen along with members of the 12th Council signed an official Proclamation declaring September 26th, 2019 as “Happy Valley Day.”
September 26th, 2019 marks the 76th Anniversary of the founding of Happy Valley. On September 26th, 1943 John Broomfield, Gilbert Saunders, and Thorwald Perrault along with their respective families settled at what was to be named Happy Valley.
Mayor Andersen along with Councillor Jackie Compton Hobbs highlighted events taking place this week to commemorate the 76th Anniversary; events such as:
- Happy Valley Day Community Potluck hosted by Welcome NL & Association for New Canadians will be taking place at the College of the North Atlantic Gymnasium on Friday, September 27th, 2019 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM
- Happy Valley Fest – Seniors Fun Day taking place from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM Saturday, September 28th, 2019 at Kinsmen Park. This event is a partnership between the Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Nunatsiavut Government – Department of Health & Social Development and Labrador Grenfell Health. Admission is a donation of one non-perishable food item in support of the Labrador Friendship Centre. There will be a Community BBQ hosted by the 12th Council of Happy Valley-Goose Bay, prize draws, and the Outdoor Community Market and plenty of fun and activities for the whole family. At 1:00 PM music entertainment by Kirk Lethbridge and Lloyd Goudie and at 2:00 PM live on stage will be the Jacinda Beals Band. Throughout the day Community partners will be on hand with Information Booths that offer a range of information pertinent to Seniors, from Health & Wellness to employment to Services. The Town is pleased to be able to offer the new access path from the Long Term Care Facility to Kinsmen Park.
