Information for the Public
Release Date: April 17, 2020

The Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay is saddened to learn of the passing of Jim Learning.

Jim Learning was a larger than life presence in Labrador. His passion and love for Labrador and her people were prominent throughout his lifetime. From being involved with the creation and promotion of the Labrador Flag many years ago to him raising it himself at the Labrador / Quebec border in 2015. Shortly after, the Province officially raised the Labrador flag.

His Worship, Mayor Wilson (Wally) Andersen stated:
“Jim was truly a son of Labrador, something he was ever so proud of. He was the type of man you would see go out of his way to help you in a time of need.”

The 12th Council, Management, and Staff of the Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay offer sincere condolences to Jim Learning’s family and friends.

In honour of his legacy and his contribution to Labrador, flags in front of Town Hall will fly at half-mast until after Jim Learning’s funeral service.
