Town Congratulates Mealy Mountain Collegiate

Class of 2020

Information for the Public

Release Date: May 16, 2020

Over the past couple of months, we have seen many impacts of the COVID-19 Pandemic. We have seen businesses having to close their doors, families separate, we have even seen schools shut down. There is another significant impact as a result of the Pandemic; the Mealy Mountain Collegiate Class of 2020 High School Graduation.

Each year around this time, students and their families are getting ready for their high school prom, an event they have looked forward to for a very long time, a right of passage if you will. 2020 will be significantly different and, no doubt, difficult for the 80 students of Mealy Mountain Collegiate.

As a community, we need to show them they are not alone; we are with them and their families, and most importantly, that we are all in this together. We need to show them that Happy Valley-Goose Bay is so very proud of every one of them.

The Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay is asking the entire community to show the 80 Grads of Mealy Mountain Collegiate that we support them. We are asking residents and businesses to hang balloons on your properties, decorate your windows with inspirational messages. Take a photo and post to social media with the hashtag

#MMCGrad2020

The Town has placed a banner above the entrance of Town Hall, and on Friday, May 29, 2020, we will invite the Grads to come to the front lawn of the Town Hall in a Physical Distant manner so that they can sign their name to the banner. Once complete, the Town will present the banner to the Town’s Youth Councillor, Tara Ryan, who also happens to be a member of the Class of 2020. Tara, your colleagues of the 12th Council, Management and Staff of the Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay wishes nothing but the best for you and your fellow Grads.

If you can dream it, you can do it!
