FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
February 2, 2021
Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay
The Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay is advising the public that it is closely monitoring information related to the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19).
In the interest of public safety, and based on public health guidelines from the Chief Medical Officer of Health, the Town advises that all indoor publicly accessible programs and events at Town-owned facilities are suspended with immediate effect and until further notice.
Further to the above, this includes all public meetings, events, ice time bookings, room bookings, and any public gatherings, which take place at the following Town-owned/operated facilities:
- EJ Broomfield Memorial Arena
- Goose Bay Curling Club
- Lawrence O’Brien Arts Centre
Outdoor Town facilities will remain open but are subject to closure depending on public health advice and guidance. As always, the Town encourages outdoor activity, but please ensure physical distancing and mask coverings wherever possible. These facilities include:
- Kinsmen Park
- Husky Park Skate Loop
- Municipal Landfill
The Town Hall will remain open for regular business hours of Monday to Friday, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Although the Town Hall will stay open, many of our services are available online or by telephone. We encourage residents who may be feeling ill to refrain from coming to the Town office. Residents can contact the Town Hall at 896-3321 with any inquiries. Masks are required.
These unprecedented measures, though unfortunate, are necessary to be proactive against the potential spread of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), and the Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay extends thanks to the public for their understanding at this time.
In consultation with officials at Labrador Grenfell Health and guidance released by the Provincial Chief Medical Officer of Health’s office, the 12th Council of Happy Valley-Goose and Management will monitor updates relating to the pandemic and update residents regularly.
The Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay strongly recommends that residents and businesses utilize a cautious approach and exercise recommended practices to prevent the potential spread of COVID-19.
