The Water & Sewer Department operates 20 wastewater pumping stations and approximately 85 kilometers of sewers, including manholes.

All wastewater from 5 Wing Goose Bay, North Side, Spruce Park, and MOT collects at two wastewater pumping stations (20 & 21). The wastewater is then pumped directly to the Wastewater Treatment Plant, located on Mud Lake Road. Wastewater is no longer deposited into the river.

All wastewater is treated at the Wastewater Treatment Plant through the following process:

  • Solids removal
  • Fine particle/grit removal
  • Aeration and settling
  • Ultra Violet Radiation (final process)

Effluent water discharges into a leaching field, which is absorbed into the ground. The plant is equipped with three lagoons. On average, the plant processes approximately 8,500 cubic metres of wastewater per day. Plant operation is 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year at 91% efficiency. The plant is equipped with modern SCADA communications and alarm systems to detect any issues.
