World Breastfeeding Awareness Week

October 01 to October 07, 2019
Information for the Public
Release Date: October 2, 2019

This week across the globe, awareness is being shared on the importance and the normality of Mother’s Breastfeeding their babies.

The theme for World Breastfeeding Week 2019 in Newfoundland and Labrador is

“Empower Parents Enable Breastfeeding”.

We are seeing more and more parents in our province choosing to breastfeed their babies. With the support of partners, family, friends, health care providers, and communities we hope to return Newfoundland and Labrador to a babyfriendly culture where breastfeeding is recognized as the normal way to feed infants and young children.

The Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay is proud to help lead the way in not only support but also promotion of Breastfeeding and its many benefits.

In a ceremony held at Town Hall, His Worship, Mayor Wilson (Wally) Andersen and members of the 12th Council of Happy Valley-Goose Bay signed a Proclamation declaring October 01 to 07, 2019 as World Breastfeeding Awareness Week in Happy Valley-Goose Bay. Also in attendance were Moms, Babies, and supportive family and friends.
