Information Sources Regarding Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Information for the Public

The Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay is advising residents that it is diligently monitoring information regarding the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) and is in close contact with officials of Labrador Grenfell Health and the Provincial Department of Health and Community Services and Chief Medical Officer of Health.

 

The Town is aware of Social Media posts that indicate an online map depicting a “Confirmed Case” in or near Happy Valley-Goose Bay. The Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay has not received any official notice of a confirmed case nor the location of the presumptive case and further advises that as of Saturday, March 14, 2020, the Provinces Chief Medical Officer confirmed that there is one “presumptive case” of COVID-19 in the Province. Testing has not yet established an actual case of COVID-19 in Newfoundland and Labrador.

 

His Worship, Mayor Wilson (Wally) Andersen stated:

 

“As Mayor, I encourage all residents to be mindful of where they get information related to COVID-19, misinformation will only create fear and confusion. As a municipality, the Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay will rely on the Province’s Chief Medical Officer of Health.”

 

For credible information, the Town recommends:

 

  • Health Canada
  • Provincial Department of Health and Community Services & Chief Medical Officer of Health (CMOH)

 

Residents should be vigilant and exercise care and caution, which also includes the source of information. There have been reported cases of Hackers using the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) Pandemic as a means of spreading spyware and malware, rather than reliable and correct information.
