Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay Postpones Annual Spring Cleanup

The Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay is advising the public that it is closely monitoring information related to the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19).

In the interest of public health & safety, and in follow up to the precautions previously announced; the Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay advises the Annual Spring Cleanup is postponed until further notice.

In the past, the Annual Spring Cleanup Program usually began at the end of May / early June. However, in light of the COVID-19 Pandemic, the Town feels that in the interest of public health & safety the 2020 Spring Cleanup will be postponed until further notice. The Town will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation and will provide potential dates once it is determined that it is safe to carry out the Annual Cleanup.

Below are some key considerations:

Annual Spring Cleanup: due to concerns around the ability to ensure Social/Physical Distancing, Town workers collecting litter throughout the community for approximately four to six weeks is postponed until further notice.

Bulk Waste Roadside Collection is postponed until further notice, residents are asked NOT to put items by the roadside. If it is determined that Bulk Waste Roadside Collection will be safe to carry out in relation to COVID-19, the Town will provide dates for each area with enough notice to allow residents to put items by the roadside.

Municipal Landfill OPEN to General Public as of April 27th, 2020.

The Landfill regular hours of operation are Monday to Saturday (Closed Sundays) from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

These unprecedented measures, though unfortunate, are necessary to be proactive against the potential spread of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), and the Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay extends thanks to the public for their understanding at this time.

In consultation with officials at Labrador Grenfell Health and guidance released by the office of the Provincial Chief Medical Officer of Health, the 12th Council of Happy Valley-Goose Bay and Management will monitor updates relating to the pandemic and update residents regularly.

The Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay is asking residents to please share this information, in particular to our Seniors that may not have access to Social Media or the Internet in general.

Seniors with COVID-19 related questions or concerns can contact 896-3254.

The Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay strongly recommends that residents and businesses utilize a cautious approach and exercise recommended practices to help prevent the potential spread of COVID-19.

Residents requiring assistance with general inquiries are advised to call the Town Hall at 896-3321 or email at info@townhvgb.com
