The Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay is advising the public that it is closely monitoring information related to the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19). As the Province has moved to Alert Level 2, the Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay is pleased to inform the community that after careful review and consideration, and in keeping with Public Health Guidelines set out by the Provincial Chief Medical Officer of Health, the Town’s Department of Community Services & Recreation will be re-opening all Municipal Playgrounds effective 8:00 AM, Monday, June 29, 2020.
Our first objective is to ensure that the Town is following all recommended public health guidelines to reduce the risk of Covid-19. Therefore, we ask that parents & guardians monitor their children’s activity at playgrounds.
Staff will be as proactive as possible with disinfection of playground equipment and we ask all users to practice Physical Distancing as much as possible and to wash hands frequently or use hand sanitizer as frequently as possible. Please avoid gathering above 50 people. Furthermore, we recommend not holding birthday parties at any playground facility.
The complete list of Municipal Playgrounds opening Monday, June 29th, 2020 includes the following locations:
- SPRUCE PARK PLAYGROUND
- LAURIER LOOP PLAYGROUND
- STEVES PLAYGROUND
- ROBERTS ROAD PLAYGROUND
- FORD STREET PLAYGROUND
- PERRAULT PLACE PLAYGROUND
The Town is also advising that the re-opening date of Kinsmen Park is to be determined and a further announcement will be made in the near future.
These unprecedented measures, though unfortunate, are necessary to be proactive against the potential spread of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), and the Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay extends thanks to the public for their understanding at this time. Council and Staff appreciate your understanding during this time of uncertainty. We look forward to re-opening the playground facilities to our community’s youth.
In consultation with officials at Labrador Grenfell Health and guidance released by the office of the Provincial Chief Medical Officer of Health, the 12th Council of Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Management, and Staff will continue to monitor updates relating to the pandemic and update residents regularly.
The Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay strongly recommends that residents and businesses continue to utilize a cautious approach and exercise recommended practices to help prevent the potential spread of COVID-19.
