Release Date: September 4, 2020

As many residents of Happy Valley-Goose Bay know, Aries Benuen, along with his Grandfather, Sebastien Benuen, are on a quest. On Saturday, August 31, 2020, Grandfather and Grandson, along with family and friends, embarked on a walk/run from Churchill Falls to Sheshatshiu with hopes of raising funds to assist with Aries Benuen tuition into the prestigious Canadian International Hockey Academy.

Sebastian, Aries’ Grandfather, is determined to see his Grandsons (and best friend) goals come true. The small but proud group of walkers/runners are making their way towards Happy Valley-Goose Bay.

Sometime over the Labour Day Weekend, they will be setting up camp at the intersection (clearing) by the dock turn-off.  Everyone is welcome to stop by and show your support for Sebastian, Aries, and the crew as they prepare for the final trek back to Sheshatshiu.

If you plan on stopping by, please practice social distancing and, if possible, wear a hockey jersey!

Motorists are encouraged to exercise extreme caution in the area.

The following excerpt is from the go fund me page:

Aries Benuen is an Innu youth from the Sheshatshiu Innu First Nation in Labrador, NL, Canada.  According to his grandfather and biggest fan, Sebastien, Aries began watching hockey when he was 4 years old and was seven before his skates hit the ice.  His grandparents have worked hard to help him achieve his potential which included moving to the neighbouring community of Happy Valley-Goose Bay to meet league residential rules and relocating entirely out of their home province for Aries to play Triple-A hockey in Quebec.  Having worked hard last year, Aries has again been accepted into the prestigious Canadian International Hockey Academy for the 2020/2021 academic year and named as one of the top 15 to represent Canada in the World Cup International Tournament Europe U15 2021.   Aries is a role model to other Innu youth and an inspiration for the entire community.

Covid-19 and the downturn in work has made this year a little more difficult for Aries’ family and they need your help.  Grandfather Sebastien will walk 287 kilometres from Churchill Falls, Labrador to Happy Valley-Goose Bay in an effort to raise funds for his Grandson.  He is inviting anyone to join him on this walk and to please consider a contribution to the fundraising campaign.

We’d like to hear from you and invite you to stop by on Facebook at  Aries Manteau Benuen Fan Page. https://www.facebook.com/groups/298035707573194
