Potential Job Cuts at Serco Goose Bay Not Acceptable for the
Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay
Information for the Public
Release Date: June 25, 2021
Since the establishment of our community, 5 Wing Goose Bay has been and continues to be the economic pillar of our Town. Our residents have a deep-rooted connection to the rich military history we share in this community. Our municipality is grateful for the partnership and vital role 5 Wing plays in our community.
Serco, the facilities management company, is a significant employer in our Town, the potential layoffs in the Serco workforce are very concerning to Council. Every job lost at 5 Wing Goose Bay will have a detrimental effect on families in our community and be a significant loss to our local economy.
The Town was a strong advocate for a 10 Year arrangement; however, the 12th Council of the Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay cannot idly sit by and watch a “job cut for profit” scenario.
We share the concerns of our residents on the future of Serco employees. We have been and will continue to voice those concerns to the Federal and Provincial Governments.
The Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay is committed to working with regional stakeholders to ensure all jobs are protected.
