Town Establishes Fire & Emergency Services Rates Policy

The Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay is advising the public that effective March 1, 2022, the Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay Fire Department will be instituting new rates for select Fire & Emergency Services.

 

Policy F0030 which was adopted by a unanimous vote of the 13th Council during February 22, 2022, Regular Meeting of Council establishes a fee system for services provided in a variety of situations from motor vehicle accidents to structure fires. Please see the below details:

 

Where an incident occurs outside of the Town’s municipal boundary, the Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay Fire Department will respond subject to its capacity in terms of resources and training, availability of backup coverage for the Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay, and/or extenuating circumstances at the time of the incident.

 

The response outside the municipal boundary has ranged from:

 

  1. a) Motor Vehicle Accidents – includes the communities of HV-GB, North West River, and Sheshatshiu and the highways connecting them; 150km towards Churchill Falls to Cashe River; and 150km on south coast highway to Crook’s Lake. Response limits may be extended depending upon request by the Office of the Fire Commissioner, Fire Emergency Services NL (FES), or RCMP.

 

  1. b) Fire Rescue – to the municipal boundary

 

 

Incidents outside of the municipal boundary shall include but are not limited to, motor vehicle incidents on the Trans-Labrador Highway, structural responses in road-accessible cabin areas, or any other emergency assistance requested by FES or RCMP.

 

The determination of the level of response and resources allocated will be determined at the discretion of the Town’s Fire Chief or the designated officer in charge at the time of the incident.

 

In the case of a motor vehicle incident, the costs will be billed to the registered owner of the vehicle(s) involved and/or the insurance company. In the event, the registered owner of the vehicle(s) involved is a property owner or tenant of property within the Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay for a minimum of six months, the proportional share of associated fees shall be waived.

 

Similarly, costs incurred because of a structural fire outside of the Town’s municipal boundary will be billed to the owner(s) of the structure(s) involved and/or the insurance company where applicable.

Residents are also advised that the fee structure found within Policy F0030 also pertains to the Open Fire Policy PS0006 and the use of fireworks without a permit.

 

Policy F0030, along with all Town policies, can be located on the Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay website in the A-Z Services section. Policy F0030 (below is a direct link)  takes effect on March 1, 2022.
