International Women’s Day

#BreakTheBias

Release Date: March 8, 2022

Today is International Women’s Day. Today, as we should every day, we recognize and celebrate women who have risen to the challenge of making our community, our world, a better place.

The theme of International Women’s Day 2022 is “Break The Bias”.

The Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay is so fortunate to have so many strong women leading the way in all aspects and all Departments, both on a Municipal Council level and throughout our day-to-day operations.

As a community, we are so fortunate to have so many strong women.

Every day they rise to the challenge of forging a path for our community. As a community, we are blessed to have them.

“Imagine a gender equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes and discrimination. A world that’s diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated. Together we can forge women’s equality. Collectively we can all #BreakTheBias.”

Whether deliberate or unconscious, bias makes it difficult for women to move ahead. Knowing that bias exists isn’t enough, action is needed to level the playing field.

Are you in? Will you actively call out gender bias, discrimination, and stereotyping each time you see it? Will you help break the bias

Cross your arms to show solidarity like Happy Valley-Goose Bay Town Councillor Pamela Duffett and share your #BreakTheBias pose on your social media using #IWD2022 #BreakTheBias
