Happy Valley – Goose Bay, NL – In the interest of public safety, the Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay will be keeping the gates to the Mealy Mountain Collegiate Sports Complex closed.
Members of the public and user groups are asked to park in the Mealy Mountain Collegiate parking lot.
The Town will be making improvements for easier accessibility, particularly for persons with disabilities, on the pathway from the MMC parking lot to the sports complex.
In addition, the Town will be holding a public consultation to find a solution for parking and accessibility to the sports complex. Details on the consultation will be provided to the public soon.
“High traffic inside the sports complex comes with great risk of injury to pedestrians, user groups and members of the public using the facilities,” said Councillor Jackie Compton Hobbs, Chair of Community Services and Recreation Committee. “The Town has taken this precautionary measure to ensure public safety and assist plans to further develop the complex with more recreational infrastructure.”
Improvements are being made to the gate to prevent vandalism and restrict ATV and off road motorcycle access. Emergency personnel are able to gain access through the gate, as needed.
