Happy Valley – Goose Bay, NL – Recreation investments for a splash pad and new playground equipment were approved at the municipality’s July Town Council meeting.
The splash pad tender was awarded to Melville Trucking and Excavating Ltd. at approximately $574,000 for construction.
The tender for new playground equipment was awarded to Coastline Specialties at approximately $71,000 to supply equipment which will be installed by the Town. This investment is in addition to over $200,000 approved by Council for playground equipment upgrades throughout the community since 2013.
These investments are Multi-Year Capital Works Projects, cost-shared with the province on a 70/30 basis.
“We are continuing to maintain our commitment to provide quality recreational infrastructure for the community,” said Councillor Jackie Compton Hobbs, Chair of Community Services and Recreation Committee. “The splash pad is a project I have personally been advocating for since being elected and I know many residents are excited to have this in Kinsmen Park for their children to enjoy.”
The splash pad will be located in Kinsmen Park. Construction is expected to be largely completed this fall and fully functional for the 2017 summer season.
The new playground equipment, expected to arrive this fall, is for various municipal parks and playgrounds. Installation will begin this year, weather permitting, and will be completed next spring.
Since 2013, the 11th Council has invested over $2 million in recreational infrastructure. Those investments include: wellness centre study, lighting and fencing around MMC Sports Complex, various recreational equipment, dog park, skateboard park equipment, curling club repairs. As well as upgrades to Kinsmen Park (& parking lot), arena, bike trail and MMC Sports Complex.
