Since the establishment of our community, 5 Wing Goose Bay has been and continues to be the pillar of our town. Our residents have a deep-rooted connection to the rich military history we share in this town. Our municipality is grateful for the partnership and vital role 5 Wing plays in our community. As 5 Wing is a major employer in our town, the recent reductions in the Serco workforce are very concerning to us. Every job lost at 5 Wing will significantly affect families in our community and be a loss to our local economy.
We share the concerns of our residents on the future of 5 Wing in our town. We have been and will continue to voice those concerns to the Federal Government. Council has met with the Honourable Harjit Sajjan, Minister of DND and MP Yvonne Jones on the future of 5 Wing and its significance in our community. We are continuing to keep this matter at the forefront of discussions with the Federal and Provincial Governments. The Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay is committed to working with regional stakeholders to share the fundamental need for 5 Wing in the community to the Federal Government.
