50th Anniversary Celebrations

Starting January 1st, 2023

Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay

Today Councillor Denise Rumbolt as a member of the 50th Anniversary Celebration Committee and on behalf of the 13th Elected Council of the Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay proudly revealed the new logo for the 365 day celebration that will start in the town just 40 days from today.

Councillor Rumbolt also announced that the year long celebration will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Town of Happy Valley joining with Goose Bay in 1973. The celebration will include more than 50 events that include everything from Church Suppers and Sporting Events to Business Conventions and Music Festivals. She announced that the planning started in August 2022 and a committee has been in place since September 2022. The 50th Anniversary Celebration Committee is comprised of Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay employees and Councillors along with a variety of community members that represent different aspects of the community.

The 50th Anniversary Committee presently has 13 members on the main committee and these numbers are expected to rise as more subcommittees are put in place to organize individual events that will take place during the 365 day event. The Committee is also calling upon the public, businesses, and community groups to come forward and look at making their own events part of the 50th Anniversary Celebration.

Councillor Denise Rumbolt called upon all residents to get involved with the year long celebration and to help make this a celebration that will be talked about for another 50 years. Councillor Rumbolt also announced to everyone that 2023 will be Come Home Year for the Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay and specifically that the period from July 28, 2023 to August 13, 2023 has been set aside to be a Come Home Year celebration period with a multitude of special events planned for that period. Councillor Rumbolt asked all residents to encourage their friends and relatives to return home to the Town to participate in Come Home Year events during the year and especially during the that 16 day period from July 28 to August 13, 2023
