The Canal Upgrade Project is an initiative to combat potential flooding in areas throughout the Valley portion of the community. Under the 2014-2017 Multi-Year Capital Works Program, in a meeting of Council on August 5, 2021, Council approved the Canal Upgrades Project and awarded a contract in the amount of $194,634.79 to 44980 NFLD INC. In essence, the work involved (dredging, widening, and extending) will significantly improve the drainage canal located North of Kelland Drive and Corte Real Road. Update as of Friday, November 8, 2021:

The Canal channel has been deepened, the construction berms were opened on the afternoon of Friday, November 5, 2021, and the canal is now flowing freely.
