Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay declares September 26th as Happy Valley Day

The Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay advises that on Wednesday, September 26th at 12 Noon His Worship, Mayor Wilson (Wally) Andersen along with members of Council signed an official Proclamation declaring September 26th as “Happy Valley Day”.

September 26th, 2018 marks the 75th Anniversary of the founding of Happy Valley. On September 26th, 1943 John Broomfield, Gilbert Saunders, and Thorwald Perrault along with their respective families settled at what was to be named Happy Valley.

Mayor Andersen also presented a plaque to be hung at Town Hall and advised that beginning in 2019, on the last Saturday of September there will be a Festival entitled “Happy Valley Fest”. The Festival will be an annual event.

Family members in attendance of the Proclamation signing include Uncle Ron Perrault (Son of Thorwald Perrault), Lorne (Hooker) Broomfield (Nephew of John Broomfield) Gillian Saunders (Grandaughter of Gilbert Saunders). The event was well attended by members of the public that also included descendants of the 3 founders.
