Information for the public

Earlier today, the Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay was notified by the RCMP and wildlife officers at the Forestry and Agrifoods Agency of a bear in Kinsmen Park.

Wildlife officers assessed the situation and unfortunately had to euthanize the bear, in the interest of public safety. There were residents in the park at the time, but they were not harmed.

Kinsmen Park will be closed for the remainder of the day and will re-open tomorrow.

The Town is asking residents to please be cautious when using public facilities this season. Please take precautions around your homes by only putting out garbage on collection day.

Local wildlife officers work to ensure the safety of the community to minimize the risk of bears within town limits. We thank them and the RCMP for their efforts today and continuous dedication to public safety.
