Emergency Water Shut-off: Spruce Park Area

Information for the Public

Release Date: June 30, 2020

 The Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay is advising residents of an urgent water shut-off due to a water line break on River Crescent. Repairs are expected to take approximately 4 hours.

Residents affected include:

12 – 22 River Crescent

15 – 21 River Crescent

 

As a result of this interruption, once the work has been completed and water restored, a Boil Water Advisory is issued for this area until further notice.

Residents are advised to bring water that you might ingest to a rolling boil for one (1) minute. For example, boil water used for:

§ Drinking

§ Brushing teeth

§ Making juice from concentrate and powders

§ Cooking

§ Washing fruits and vegetables

§ Making tea, coffee, and other hot drinks

§ Making infant formula and cereals

The Boil Water Advisory will remain in effect until the following criteria are met:

1.   At least one (1) satisfactory bacteriological water analysis is obtained (absence of total coliform and E. coli in 100ml of samples).

2.   Satisfactory free chlorine residual is maintained at the entry to the distribution system.

3.   Free chlorine residual is detectable & maintained throughout the distribution system.

The public will be notified once this advisory is lifted.

Further to the above, the Town is issuing a Traffic Advisory for the above area. Heavy Equipment will be operating in the area and Motorists and Pedestrians are encouraged to proceed with caution in the area. All applicable Safety Signage and Barricades will be in place.

All residents in the Spruce Park area may experience discoloured water as a result of these repairs. In this event, run taps until water runs clear.
