The Housing Hub: Action Team Update – August 5, 2022

Did you know that The Housing Hub is the province’s first low-barrier emergency shelter and is managed by Nunatsiavut Government on behalf of NL Housing?  The shelter opened in 2016 and provides a much-needed community service for individuals who are homeless or precariously housed.  Besides providing a roof over somebody’s head the Nunatsiavut Government works hard to create a safe and welcoming space for individuals while providing basic needs and required supports.

Some supports at The Housing Hub include weekly in-person visits like income support services, onsite healthcare (nurse practitioner & LPN) and mental health supports. In-person services also include probation officer support and Legal Aid Commission client intake.  The Housing Hub and Labrador Grenfell Health also support clients at the Labrador Inn.  The shelter services all individuals – both Indigenous and non-Indigenous. Please contact Jeffery Matthews @ 896-4825 for further details on The Housing Hub. The Action Team looks forward to providing regular updates through the Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay’s Facebook page and website, and the Labrador Affairs Secretariat’s webpage at https://www.gov.nl.ca/exec/las/overview/
