2021 Municipal General Election Update
“Voters List”
Information for the Public
Release Date: July 27, 2021

The Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay reminds the public that the 2021 Municipal Election will be held on Tuesday, September 28, 2021. Information on Poll locations will be released at a later date.
There will be two separate ballots for voters to consider on election day:

• Ballot for Mayor
• Ballot for up to six Councillors

Section 31 of the Municipal Elections Act dictates that the Voters List must be finalized one month before an election. To aid in that process, the Town asks any individual who meets the requirements to be an eligible voter in the 2021 Municipal General Election to contact the Town Hall to have your name added to the Voters List for the municipality of Happy Valley-Goose Bay.

In accordance with section 22 of the Act, in order to vote in a municipal election a person must:
be a Canadian citizen;
• be at least 18 years of age on or before election day; and
• have been ordinarily resident (of Happy Valley-Goose Bay) for the 30 days immediately preceding election day either in the municipality or in an area that on election day is part of the municipality.

If you voted in the 2017 Municipal General Election, you are likely already included in the Voters List.
If you are a new resident of Happy Valley-Goose Bay and meet the above requirements, and would like your name added to the voter’s list, please visit Town Hall Monday to Friday from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Please be prepared to provide an appropriate ID such as a valid Driver’s License and or proof of civic address.

Section 24 of the Municipal Elections Act states the following:
Residency
24. (1) The following rules shall determine the residency of a person for the purpose of this Act:
(a) a person shall be a resident of the place where he or she lives and sleeps and to which, when absent, he or she intends to return;
(b) residency is not lost by a person who leaves that residence for temporary purposes only; and
(c) the place where a person’s family resides shall be his or her residence unless that person commences and continues to live at some other place with the intention of remaining there, in which case, the person shall be considered to be resident in the place in which he or she intends to reside.
(2) A person shall, for the purpose of this Act, have only one place of residency.

The Town will update as more information is available.
