Residential / Commercial Lawn Sweeping Policy
Information for the Public
Release Date: June 10, 2022

The Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay is advising the public of a new policy adopted by the 13th Council in a regular meeting of Council held on Tuesday, May 24, 2022.

Policy PW0043 Residential / Commercial Lawn Sweeping Policy addresses a concern for many residents at this time of year, sand on residential and commercial properties.

As the public is aware there is a significant build-up of sand on residential/ commercial properties as a result of road snow clearing operations conducted by the Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay Public Works Department.

The intent of this new policy is to subsidize owners for a portion of the cost of the rental of a lawn sweeper or employment of a contractor to remove sand that has been deposited onto a residential/ commercial property through Town winter snow clearing operations. Removal and disposal of sand will be the responsibility of the property owner.

Policy PW0043, which took effect May 24, 2022, provides a maximum subsidy of $50.00 per calendar year. Credits will be issued to the owner by registered participating businesses operating in the Town and payment to these businesses will be made monthly upon submission of invoices.

Property owners should be cognizant of the potential impact of noise, dust and debris on neighbouring properties and that all sand removal should be in accordance with the Town’s Development Regulations.
