Information for the Public
Release Date: October 21, 2021

The Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay continues to monitor information from the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Effective Friday, October 22, 2021, ages 19 and older must be fully vaccinated or have an approved medical exemption to access the EJ Broomfield Memorial Arena, including Clyde’s Room. Staff will be scanning NLVaxPass documentation from users’ smartphones or print versions upon entry.

Effective Friday, October 22, 2021, anyone entering the EJ Broomfield Memorial Arena must do so at the Player’s Entrance; the Main Entrance will now be utilized as an exit only.

To gain access, users must provide proof of vaccination or proof of Medical Exemption, and proof of ID. Failure to do so will result in individuals being denied access to the EJ Broomfield Arena.

Children and youth ages under 18 years are not required to provide proof of vaccination.

For people ages 19 years and older, the identification must include a photo. If you are 19 years of age or older and do not have photo identification, you can present two pieces of non-photo identification that include your name, and at least one must have your date of birth.

Under these guidelines, the Province will consider Medical Exemptions for people who cannot get a COVID-19 vaccine due to specific medical reasons. These medical reasons are:

  • Severe allergy or anaphylactic reaction to a previous dose of COVID-19 vaccine or to any of its components
  • Diagnosed episode of myocarditis/pericarditis after receipt of a COVID-19 mRNA vaccine

The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Newfoundland and Labrador has provided guidance on medical exemptions for COVID-19 vaccinations, which physicians must follow.

People with approved exemptions will be issued a COVID-19 vaccination record QR code.

The Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay is not responsible for providing Medical Exemptions. That obligation rests solely with the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador.

All other COVID-19 Guidelines, such as mandatory mask-wearing and physical distancing, will also be followed.

The Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay understands that this will be difficult for some; however, under special measure orders from the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador, the Town has a legal obligation to carry out the NLVaxPass Mandate. The Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay appreciates the patience and understanding of the community on this matter.
