“Not all Disabilities are Visible”

The United Nations has established December 3rd to be the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
The observance of the Day aims to promote an understanding of disability issues and mobilize support for the dignity, rights, and well-being of persons with disabilities.
The theme for the 2020 International Day of Persons with Disabilities is “Not all Disabilities are Visible”. The theme focuses on spreading awareness and understanding of disabilities that are not immediately apparent, such as mental illness, chronic pain or fatigue, post-traumatic stress disorders, sight or hearing impairments, brain injuries, neurological disorders, learning differences, and cognitive dysfunctions, among others, and all of these conditions can disrupt everyday activities.
In a Noon hour ceremony, Deputy Mayor Bert Pomeroy, Councillor Jackie Compton Hobbs, and Councillor Lori Dyson Edmunds were joined by Major R.M. Snider 5 Wing DAGPWD Champion signed a Proclamation declaring December 3, 2020, as the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
The Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay is proud once again to partner with 5 Wing Goose Bay to help spread awareness of invisible disabilities, which are not always immediately apparent, that impact mental health is crucial to create a healthy and inclusive future.
