Provincial Ban on Open Fires

Information for the Public

Release Date: April 27, 2020

Clarification:

The Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay Volunteer Fire Department is reminding residents of Happy Valley-Goose Bay that the use of CSA Approved (Canadian Standards Association) back yard fire places and fire pits are permitted. These units are exempt from the fire ban that was put into place by the Provincial Department of Fisheries and Land Resources on April 22, 2020.  https://www.gov.nl.ca/releases/2020/flr/0422n02/

As with past years this is no different except this year there is now a ban on the following:

  • grass burning
  • brush burning
  • campfires and
  • personal fireworks

Anyone requiring any additional information regarding this issue may look at the Forest Fire Regulations under the Forestry Act.  Residents of the Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay are reminded that there are regulations in place for the use of back yard fire pits and there are also new regulations and a potential permitting process being worked on.  However with the change in weather throughout the summer months, there may come a need for a fire ban to be issued, and if so a further PSA will follow.
