Municipal Landfill Hours of Operation

The Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay Department of Public Works is reminding the public of changes to the operations of the Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay Municipal Landfill.
Effective Tuesday, July 5, 2022, the Municipal Landfill will operate under the below schedule:
Closed Mondays (Closed Monday, August 1, 2022)
Tuesdays 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM
Wednesdays 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM
Thursdays 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM
Fridays 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM
Saturdays 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM
While closing Mondays may appear to be reduced services, it in fact is an opportunity for staff to carry out important maintenance operations at the facility in a more effective manner.
Closing at 4:30 PM will permit Municipal Landfill employees ample time to complete vital safety checks, which includes, but not limited to, ensuring no one is left inside the facility before locking up the Landfill facility at the 5:00 PM end of shift.
Effective Tuesday, July 5, 2022, staff will close (not lock) the gate at 4:30 PM. Anyone who has entered the gates before 4:30 PM will of course be let out, however, anyone arriving at the gate at 4:30 PM or later will not be permitted to enter.
Also, all users (both Commercial & Residential) of the Municipal Landfill are reminded that scavenging is strictly prohibited. The Town continues to receive reports of individuals rummaging through material waste discarded by previous visitors. The practice of scavenging is a serious health and safety risk to not only visitors of the Municipal Landfill but also to Municipal Landfill Staff. Users visiting the facility are to discard their waste materials and immediately vacate the Municipal Landfill facility. Anyone witnessing scavenging at the Landfill is encouraged to contact Municipal Enforcement at 896-3322. Violators will be ticketed and or face banned future access.
