Section of Birch Island Boardwalk CLOSED

Information for the Public

Release Date: June 9, 2020

The Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay is advising residents that due to concerns of public health & safety, a 16 foot section of Birch Island Boardwalk has been CLOSED to the public. As indicated in the enclosed photos, an erosion of land in the wetland area has caused support posts to be suspended in the air creating a public health and safety concern for potential users of the Boardwalk.

Town Crews has blocked off entrances of the boardwalk that would bring users to the affected section. Please adhere to these safery warnings. Current access points will allow users to practice one directional usage of the Birch Island Boardwalk.

These unprecedented measures, though unfortunate, are necessary to be proactive against the potential spread of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), and the Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay extends thanks to the public for their understanding at this time.

The Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay is asking residents to please share this information, in particular to our Seniors that may not have access to Social Media or the Internet in general.

Seniors with COVID-19 related questions or concerns can contact 896-3254.

The Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay strongly recommends that residents and businesses utilize a cautious approach and exercise recommended practices to help prevent the potential spread of COVID-19.

Residents requiring assistance with general inquiries are advised to call the Town Hall at 896-3321 or email at info@townhvgb.com
