The Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay would like to advise residents that the anticipated completion date for the Street Resurfacing Project is September 28, with the reinstatement of gravel on the sides of roadways to follow. Under this project, the following three roadways are the final areas scheduled for resurfacing:
Cartwright Road: section between Corte Real Road – Grand Street
Corte Real Road: section between Saunders Street – Johnny Hill Drive
The following areas have already been resurfaced under this project:
Cartwright Road: section between Corte Real Road – Markland Road
Michelin Street: section between Churchill Street – Ford Street
Broomfield Street (portion)
As a result of this project, the two intersections of: 1) Lake and River Crescent; and 2) Lake and Brook Crescent will be modified to meet provincial standards.
The municipality and CBCL (engineering consulting firm) had previously anticipated the resurfacing of Hale Street as part of this year’s Street Resurfacing Project. Unfortunately, due to budgetary constraints, Hale Street was unable to be completed but will be considered in the municipality’s future Multi-Year Capital Works Street Resurfacing Projects.
The Multi-Year Capital Works, Street Resurfacing Project is quantity based and follows a pre-determined roadway priority list established by the municipality and CBCL. The roadway priority list is generated based on two guiding factors: 1) condition of the asphalt; and 2) traffic volume.
We would like to thank residents for their continued patience while work is completed to finish this project. The town encourages motorists to exercise caution in these construction areas and apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause.
