Release Date: May 15, 2021

The Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay is saddened to learn of the passing of Councillor Joe Tremblett.

Known to many as Joe, Councillor Joe Tremblett moved to Happy Valley-Goose Bay with his family when he was nine years old and has called this community home ever since. Over thirty years, Joe and his wife Nellie raised their three sons, Matthew, Joel, and Kyle, and are also proud grandparents to Gracie and Joey.

Councillor Tremblett was elected to the 12th Council of the Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay in a March 2018 by-election. Since elected, he served as Chair of the Enforcement and Emergency Services Committee and served as a member of the Economic Development and Public Engagement Committee.

Councillor Tremblett had always been an active member of the community, for many years serving as a member of the Happy Valley-Goose Bay Kinsmen and is a past member of the Happy Valley-Goose Bay Lion’s Club. Rooted in the community, Councillor Tremblett had been employed with Canada Post since 1990 and held the Regional Superintendent’s position.

A strong advocate for Seniors, especially those residing in the Labrador Health Centre Long Term Care Facility, Councillor Tremblett was instrumental in the “Kinsmen Park Accessibility Project” in providing safe, unrestricted access to Kinsmen Park for the facilities residents and their families. In a January 2021 ceremony, members of the “Helping Hands Committee,” which Joe also served, and his colleagues on the 12th Council of the Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay officially designated the accessibility path “Joe’s Way.”

The 12th Council, Management, and Staff of the Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay offer sincere condolences to Joe’s family and friends.

In honour of his contribution, flags in front of Town Hall will fly at half-mast until sunset of the day of his funeral service.
