Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay Receives Funding from ACOA
for Labrador Wellness Centre
(Happy Valley-Goose Bay) – At a Ceremony held on Monday, March 18, 2019, the Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay received a contribution in the amount of $1.5 Million. The announcement was made on behalf of the Hon. Navdeep Bains, Minister Responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency by Yvonne Jones, MP for Labrador and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Intergovernmental and Northern Affairs and Internal Trade.
The funding is provided under ACOA’s “Innovative Communities Fund” and is non-repayable.
Mayor Wally Andersen noted, “The funding announced today is wonderful news for the Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay, and further demonstrates the viability and vision of the Labrador Wellness Centre. With construction just around the corner, as Mayor, I am extremely pleased with having ACOA as a partner.”
“As Chair of the Department of Community Services & Recreation, I am very excited about the funds announced today; residents will be excited as well as we approach the construction phase in mere weeks. The Labrador Wellness Centre is becoming a reality.” Says Councillor Jackie Compton-Hobbs.
Construction of the Labrador Wellness Centre is scheduled to commence in the Spring of 2019, with the Design to commence immediately. The official opening is slated for January 2021.

Projected Cost: $30.5 Million (HST Included)
Federal Contribution: $7.5 Million
Provincial Contribution: $11.5 Million
ACOA Contribution: $1.5 Million
Nalcor: $1 Million
HST Rebate: $4.1 Million
Total Capital Campaign: $5 Million
