Information for the Public
Updated: April 19, 2016

The Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay is advising the public that due to the warm temperatures we have been experiencing, excessive snow melt and surface water infiltrated the Town’s sewer system on Friday, April 15th, resulting in a breach to one of the three lagoons at the Wastewater Treatment Plant.

Town crews stopped the partially treated (stage one) wastewater overflow from spilling over onto adjacent vacant property. Crews conducted remediation over the weekend and continue to monitor the system.

The Town continues to work conjunction with the Department of Environment to mitigate any potential environmental and health concerns.

The wastewater breach has caused minimal damage to the lagoon.

In the interest of public safety, the area has been clearly marked off with high visibility caution tape to prevent any snowmobilers or individuals from entering.
The Town is asking members of the public to stay away from the area.

The public will be notified as the situation progresses.
