World Suicide Prevention Day

September 10, 2019

Today, September 10th, 2019 is World Suicide Prevention Day. Today we remember those that we have lost to Suicide. Flags in front of the Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay Town Hall will fly at half-mast.

In a Noon hour ceremony, Deputy Mayor Bert Pomeroy on behalf of His Worship Mayor Wilson (Wally) Andersen and the 12th Council of the Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay will sign a Proclamation declaring today, September 10th, 2019 World Suicide Prevention Day.

It is estimated that each day in Canada, 10 people end their life and 250 make a suicide attempt. Suicide occurs across all age, economic, social, and ethnic boundaries. The pain that leads individuals to take their lives is unimaginable, and their deaths leave countless family and friends bereaved and their communities impacted. In Labrador, the rate of suicide is highest amongst our youth under 30 years of age.

Working together, we as a community can prevent Suicide.

Today at 5:00 PM at the RCMP Detachment join us for the 13th Annual World Suicide Prevention Day Celebrate Life Walk. We ask those that are attending to please wear Yellow.

Join us as we walk from the RCMP Detachment in Happy Valley-Goose Bay to honour the lives who have been affected by Suicide.
